Employability Skills Programme (ESP) – Advancing unemployed people closer to the employers with new and improved skills in ESOL (English Language)/Literacy, Numeracy and Employability
The Employability Skills Programme (ESP) is a fully funded welfare to work training programme designed to advance your opportunities to find suitable long term employment. ESP offers training in ESOL/Literacy and Numeracy with inclusive support for job search activities, work placements and the Employability Skills Award which increases your confidence to progress into employment. We can also help you to brush up on a variety of other skills you may need in your everyday life such as CV writing skills, internet skills, ICT skill. You can also gain foundation certificates in areas such as First Aid, Food and Hygiene, Health and Safety and Manual Handling to boost your CV.

All job centre plus customers who are over the age of 18 and receiving Job Seekers Allowance (JSA), Incapacity Benefit or Income Support can join the programme through referral by the Jobcentre for a meeting with our advisor. If your assessment shows you need training at or below Level 1 with your literacy and /or your numeracy skills you may be suitable for the programme. Depending on your assessment you may also be able to take the Employability Skills Award. If you have a more specific need which is not addressed by this programme, the advisor will direct you to another training provider that will be of more use.
The course enables you to gain ESOL / Literacy, Numeracy and Employability skills and accredited qualifications to advance you on a practical level and will also help you to become more employable. All the training is delivered informally with the freedom to work at your own pace so you will quickly see the benefits of learning. In addition, you will have the chance to brush up your IT skills and have access to the internet for job facilities.

- Accredited City & Guilds Certificate in ESOL Skills for Life, Literacy and / or Numeracy
- Accredited City & Guilds Award in Employability and Personal Development
- A quick transition into a new job….or the skills and confidence to continue looking for work on your own
- Improved skills and confidence that will impress prospective employers e.g. IT
- Job search that suits your vocational interests
- Valuable work experience by taking part in work placements with local employers
The Employability Skills Programme lasts for 15 weeks for up to 20 hours a week. We find that people involved on this programme increase their job prospects and their confidence.

No, this is a fully funded FREE course by the Skills Funding Agency for unemployed Job Centre Plus clients.
You get an extra £10 a week Training Allowance if you join the course full time (20 hrs a week). We also pay towards your travel expenses to get to and from 5E Ltd.
